Uniform nomenclature across Europe

The Council of Europe

The Council of Europe agreed to apply a uniform nomenclature across Europe for the individual knowledge of a foreign language. We abide by this absolutely, to ensure that you can report the foreign-language skills you acquired in Switzerland when you are abroad.

We distinguish between six different language levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. A1 is the language level of a beginner. C2 specifies the level of a person who has mastered the foreign language.
